Common Question's About Yoga
We believe yoga should be accessible to everyone. We opened our studio to offer an encouraging environment in which all levels and abilities can practice. Here are some answers to common questions about yoga and what we offer.
Q. What does the word ‘Yoga' mean?
The word has a few definitions including union or to join. The Sanskrit word yoga can be traced back as far as 5,000 years ago.
Modern yoga practice is often defined as the union of mind, body and spirit through physical postures, meditation and deep breathing.
Q. If I have never practiced yoga can attend classes?
Absolutely! Our classes are for all levels and abilities. We encourage everyone to attend and will help you to practice to your specific needs.
Remember to go at your own pace in class and we recommend those who are new to yoga attend at least three Level 1 classes. After your third class you will have a better understanding of how to physically perform the postures that will help build strength, focus, stamina and flexibility.
Everyone was new at some point!
Q. What if I'm not that flexible?
Yoga practice is about working on flexibility of mind and body. You don't need to be physically flexible to be healthy or to practice yoga. Yoga is about creating balance between strength and flexibility. We all come with a unique set of circumstances. Some may come with more strength and less flexiblity and some are more flexible and less physically strong. With practice all can achieve a better balance.
Being able to touch your toes will not help you live to be a 100, or make you a better person. Challenging your flexibility can help you cultivate patience; reflect on your reaction to stress and better ways deal with it. These lessons can be brought off the mat and into our daily life.
You may never be able to touch your toes, or it may take a while and that's okay.
Please feel free to call or email us with any questions or concerns you have before beginning your practice. Instructors are available before and after each class to help answer questions that you may have had about the class you will or just attended.

Q. How often should I practice?
Since yoga utilizes the bodies own weight and has virtually no impact you can safely practice daily. Consistently practicing yoga 2-3 times per week you feel change, 5-6 times per week you will see change.
Q. What if I am pregnant?
Always let the instructor know when you are expecting so they can review modifications with you. We recommend everyone who is expecting to get the consent of their doctors on beginning a yoga practice. Yoga can be very challenging if you try it for the first time when you are pregnant so we recommend sticking with the intro classes for those new to yoga, however those who are more practiced and become pregnant can successfully practice throughout the entire pregnancy with some modifications. Of course always listen to your body, go at your own pace and rest when needed.
Q. What if I am injured?
Always let the instructor know when you are injured so they can review the modifications with you. Anyone who is injured should get the consent of their doctors to begin practicing yoga. Intro classes are recommended for those whose doctors agree it is safe for them to practice. Of course always listen to your body, go at your own pace and rest when needed.
